Downtown Scottsdale makes NYT Summer Places to Go List

by Dru Bloomfield on June 3, 2008

From the New York Times List of 31 Places to Go This Summer, Downtown Scottsdale comes in at #9 on the list:

Downtown Scottsdale is turning into a desert version of Miami’s South Beach. No ocean of course, ….

Plus, there’s plenty of shopping and other activities (indoors and out) to keep you busy day and night.

Many of the local hotels have great rates in the summer time, and even Phoenix area residents will check in for a weekend to hang out by the pool for some refreshing R&R.

A couple of the hotels that have excellent pool areas are:

Arizona Grande Resort

Features an eight-story high tower with three water slides, wave pool, river tubing, and a 25-person hot tub

JW Marriot at Desert Ridge

Four pools, of differing sizes and themes, and two spas, plus a lazy river and water slide.  Dive-in movie nights.

Westin Kierland Resort and Spa

For Families: A lazy river and a  waterslide into the main pool. Separate children’s play area features pop-jet water fountains, a shallow pool for small children and babies, and a sandy beach perfect for sand castles or volleyball.

For Adults: A heated pool is conveniently located by the spa, with nearby hot tubs, and private cabanas.

Scottsdale is really a pretty “cool” place to visit. It’s also great to live and play here, year round.  If you’ve given any thought to spending more than a vacation in the area, just let me know.  I’ve got lots more to share.
