I just discovered a great map of local art galleries in downtown Scottsdale over at the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau web site. Click on a pin to get a description of type of artwork that a specific gallery carries.

Dorothy, at the front desk over at LA Fitness, mentioned to me that she was going to start riding her bike to work. In chatting with her, I realized that she didn’t know that she would have bike path access almost the whole way from her home in Tempe to McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale. I printed out a section of the bike map to take in and share with her today, and thought it was worth reminding you where these excellent biking resources are on-line.
The Scottsdale bike path that runs along Hayden Road from North to South Scottsdale is wide and fast. It goes under and over main thoroughfares, with only a few intersections to cross. Rolling through golf courses and green belt, it’s a pretty ride, too. Now that our weather is cooling off, it’s a perfect time to get out, and even start thinking about riding your bike to work.
My mind wandered a bit this morning. I have a question for you? Is it possible to:
Show homes and buy real estate on a bike?
I’ve been reading about Realtors who show houses to their biking clients on their preferred mode of transportation. Interesting to consider. What do you think? I’d certainly be game to try!
Here are a few Realtors mixing real estate and biking around the U.S. and Canada:
- Realtors peddle real estate to bike-happy clients
- Specializing in homes for cyclists & alt commuters! - Portland, Oregon
-
Pedal to Properties – Boulder, Colorado
-
A lifestyle shift – riding a bike – Charlotte, North Carolina
-
Buy a Home on a Bike (Denver) - Denver, Colorado
(Realtors, if I missed you this list, just let me know and I’ll update.)
If you have kids and are thinking of moving to Scottsdale, you need to know that home owners with a Scottsdale mailing address, may be residents of one of three public school districts: Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, or Cave Creek.

School Boundary Maps
Each of the school districts posts their attendance boundary maps online, so you can quickly confirm which district the home you are considering buying is located in.
Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD)
Paradise Valley School (PVUSD) Boundary Maps (Elementary, Middle, and High School)
Cave Creek Unified School Attendance Maps (Elementary, Middle, and High School)
You will want to contact the school district to make sure that their maps are the most recent (which presumably they are) and to ask if any boundary changes are proposed. The Scottsdale district is currently discussing closing and merging a couple of schools. So, while no decision has been made, a savvy home buyer would want to know if changes are possible, either before making an offer to purchase a home, or as part of the inspection process that occurs right after a contract is accepted.
School Calendars
Cave Creek Schools start the 2008-2009 school year on Thursday, August 7th. Scottsdale and Paradise Valley schools are both back in session on Monday, August 11, 2008.
Weekend traffic in Phoenix can be a real challenge, since most major freeway work is done between Friday night and and Monday morning.
