I got caught in the last freeway closure a couple weeks ago, and it took me almost an hour to get through the last 5 miles to my home.
The freeway closures (southbound Loop 101) are scheduled again this weekend.
Be prepared for it to take longer to get just about anywhere in Scottsdale if you are planning to use the 101, Pima, or Hayden.
Here’s the info I received from the City of Scottsdale:
This weekend’s Loop 101 traffic restrictions
Work continues to add lanes to the Loop 101 Pima Freeway between Shea Boulevard and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway. This week’s restrictions:
- Southbound traffic will be closed from Indian School to McKellips roads from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8.
- The northbound left and high occupancy lanes will be closed at McKellips Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8.
- The right two southbound lanes will be closed from Mountain View Road to 90th Street from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, through 7 a.m. Saturday.
Access the suggested detour route map here.
As part of the $72.7 million project, one lane in each direction will be added to the 11-mile stretch of road. A second northbound lane will be added between the Loop 202 interchange and McDowell Road. For the time being, all lanes will be open during weekday commutes, but the posted speed limit on the freeway will be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph. The project is slated for a late 2016 completion, according to Arizona Department of Transportation.
And if your thinking about using your bike to get around town this weekend, as an alternative, here are a few of my past posts on biking in Scottsdale:

Scottsdale has been awarded quite a few honors over the years. And for those of us who live in Scottsdale, we know it’s a great place to live.
I got an email not too long ago from a mom (and her daughters) asking if I could post some info about Scottsdale from a web site they found called AreaVibes. They are moving to Scottsdale later this summer, and were researching the area.
The web site that they found and asked me to share ranked Scottsdale as the #2 city in its Top Ten Best Places to Live list for 2013.
I would definitly agree with the AreaVibes assessment of the city.
…if you are for the best of everything, then Scottsdale is your city. Scottsdale is even called the Beverly Hills of Arizona. It is home to top rated spas, resorts, restaurants and an amazing selection of retail stores. Along with having the best of everything, you will be impressed with how safe you will feel in Scottsdale. The violent crime rate in less than half of the Arizona average.
I’ve added a link to the AreaVibes web site, so you can research Scottsdale and the surrounding areas,

I thought this was great Super Bowl commercial. And to find out, it was created as part of a contest and won by a photographer from Scottsdale!

Seems kind of perfect since the Super Bowl will be held in Glendale, Arizona this year. Scottsdale is already ramping up for this huge event. Here are few web sites you can check out.

I caught this morning sunrise as I was riding through Chaparral Park Friday morning. Was such a striking view that I had to jump off my bike and snap this photo with my iPhone. Even captured a reflection of the moon, partially hidden by the clouds, in the lake.
