Oddly, I just discovered this post, which I wrote in January of this year, but never published. I guess life got busy. When I rediscovered it today, I found the videos just as fascinating as they were at the time, so I’m going to share with you today. Hope you enjoy.

I’ve lived in Phoenix a long time, but never heard of fish herding, so I guess that’s why I was a bit fascinated. I rode down to watch Salt River Project (SRP) begin their process to clean the canal down by Fashion Square Mall. I took a little video of SRP herding fish. There was quite a crowd, and it ended up being an interesting morning.
Materials needed: fencing, hip boots, fish nets, a crane, and lots of bodies.
I was amazed at the number of people who down on the canal banks at the Scottsdale Waterfront for the morning. It was curious to watch. The fish were MUCH bigger than I was expecting.
I was Twitter a bit and sending a few photos out, and my friend and fellow Scottsdale Realtor, John Wake, sent out the following explanation for the timing of the canal cleaning. You’ll want to read from the bottom up on this one.
And then last night when I was uploading my video, I stumbled across this professional video direct from SRP, explaining the process a little bit more.
The other thing that made day even more interesting was the live, walking art exhibit. Very different. Totally fun.
