“I think I can”

by Dru Bloomfield on August 2, 2008

I wrote the following in mid-July and never did post it.  Not sure why, but I do think that we are all coming to terms with a very changed financial market.

I keep my finger on the pulse and think about what I hear and read, and then try to make some sense of it all.  Same for you?

We have so much noise and finger pointing going on about real estate, the economy, and much, much more.  Just writing about it makes my head hurt.

Today, I asked my colleague for her opinion on an Active Rain blog post, and this is what she emailed me back:

I think we’re either part of the problem or part of the solution … way too much finger pointing going that inhibits us from making headway on finding a way to support not only our industry, but also the U.S. economy.

I agree.

The experts don’t seem to agree if we are coming or going.  Or even how good or bad our Phoenix real estate market is.

So, I’m going back to basics, in my life, and in my business.  It’s the small steps we take, that make a big difference over time.

For me that has meant that over the past week, I’ve been reviewing my business plans, modifying, and then writing procedures to match the plan.  I’ve been reviewing how others are adjusting their businesses to ride the wave and making the best of a testy situation.

We are in this mess together.  It’s a global economy, and we are all impacted in some way, whether it be in how we conduct our business, or how much we are paying for our groceries.

Now, a couple weeks later,  I’m adjusting to higher priced groceries, smiling when I see gas under $4 a gallon, and still looking for good news in the paper.  I attended a business conference in San Francisco and my in-laws 60th wedding anniversary celebration in San Diego.  My batteries are recharged, and a Henry Ford quote has running around in my head this past week.  It’s a good reminder for us all:

Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right.

Hi Dru – Sounds like your time away allowed you the luxury of some “mental breathing room”.

Sometimes life gets in the way of what’s truly important to us. You’re such an amazing spirit … Thanks for sharing.

Calie, OK, so now I will share that you are the wise woman I was quoting here!

..thought it sounded familiar. Funny – my first thought was that it was from one of our conversations – from you! lol …
