It’s time to start planning your trip to Scottsdale for Spring Training. Baseball, that is. This year’s season runs from February 27th through March 27th.
Spring training is a one of a kind experience. The weather is usually warming up and it’s easy to get a sunburn. At the games, you will a great mix of young and old, working and retired, all having a great time. There’s as much to watch in the stands as there is on the field!
The play on the field is much closer, and some fans know who all the young players are that are vying for a spot on the regular season roster. If it’s your first time to go to a spring training game, be prepared to see more action on field, such as the extra players running laps on the warning track while the game is being played. The players will sometimes talk to the fans, not as much as in years past, but some are still approachable. After the game, it’s pretty common to see the home team back on the field for more training and drills.
The Cactus League schedules have already been announced, so you can start planning your spring training games now. The teams that play in the Phoenix and Tucson areas include the Diamondbacks, Cubs, White Sox, Rockies, Royals, Angels, Brewers, Athletics, Padres, Giants, Mariners, Rangers, and Dodgers. The Cactus League web site has new and very helpful trip planner to help schedule your games.
The San Francisco Giants spring training field is here in Scottsdale. Game tickets go on sale January 15th, and the best seats do go fast. I’ve always made it a point to order our tickets the day they go on sale, so I can get the best seats.
It’s a great time, but you do need to plan ahead!
Here’s a YouTube video that definitely shares the flavor of what spring traing is all about.
