I have been sitting on the Scottsdale Association’s Multiple Listing Service (MLS) committee for the past couple years and have been asked to be Vice Chair for the coming year. In addition, I was recently selected to the Arizona Regional MLS (ARMLS) committee, just in advance of a major new system implementation scheduled for this coming summer.
What does this mean to you as a buyer or seller of real estate in Scottsdale, Arizona?
I hope to be able to share some of the great new features of the system that will make it easier for you to search for homes in the area. And home sellers, when it’s easier for buyers to find and really see your home with photos, tours, maps, and more, you know that this will enhance the home marketing that your agent does.
In our Scottsdale Association MLS meeting Tuesday, the new and forward thinking CEO of ARMLS, Bob Bemis, shared his five year vision for the association. In my opinion, Bob is focusing on all of the issues that you as a buyer and seller of real estate, will benefit from greatly. In his presentation, he shared his vision for:
- Putting infrastructure in place, both from a people and technology perspective, giving your real estate agent the timely support that’s needed in today’s fast-paced society.
- Building relationships and providing for data sharing opportunities, allowing out-of-state buyers to look for homes in wider areas of Arizona. This means that if you are relocating to Arizona, and may be unsure of whether you want to live in Phoenix or Tucson or some other Arizona location you may have an easier time of searching through homes from a single web site.
- Tapping into the growing interconnectivity of social networks and Web 2.0. Being able to share timely information about the market with you is critical. And sometimes, it’s not all about the houses. You, as a buyer and seller of real estate want to know that the agent you are working with really understands the real estate market and the neighborhoods that he/she is working in.
- Expanding into areas that provide more advanced tools that help your real estate agent research and present valuable information that will help you make decisions in your real estate transaction.
All in all, I think the improvements coming will give agents the opportunity to market listed properties more effectively and give buyers better tools for home searching.
More to follow in the coming year.

Dru- you may be interested to know that there was a blog created for those interested in providing feedback directly to FBS. You can find it at:

Greg Swann of the Bloodhound Blog set it up, and I would imagine he’d be willing to add you as a contributor, if you wanted a place to help us all stay informed, that didn’t “clutter” your blog here.

Steve, Thanks for recommending the PRETE blog. I’ve been following it, and commented a few times early on. I do think the blog is going to be an increasingly important tool over the next year as we change over to FlexMLS. With my technology background and experience in rolling out systems, I know that communication is going be key in the perceived and real success of the implementation.
I’ll touch base with Greg — thanks for the suggestion and recommendation.
